GREAT SCOPE!!! BUT READ BELOW
I have purchased this item from another vendor and I am experiencing some problems. I have it mounted on a custom AR-15 and after about 40-50 shots the Dot went extremely dim (not very visible) and then the next shot it turned back on. It appeared to get worse because the next day I went to shoot again and the actual dot SHUT OFF and again the next shot it turned back on... So weird! It appears to not handle the recoil of the .223? I will return because the return policy is awesome and I have heard that the company is very reputable. I will post results...
OK. WHOLE DIFFERENT BALL GAME NOW.
I contacted VORTEX via phone and by the end of the conversation I already had a FED-EX label in my email to ship back for repair/replacement. I believe it was less than five days I had a brand new unit and I installed it quickly and went to the range. This scope shoots great and will hit bullseyes from 50-100 yds. I just put it through a hardcore hog hunt and this this...

Disappointing, the worst of my 4 red dot sights
GOOD POINTS:
1) Switchable between red and green dots at the touch of a button
2) 2x doubler/magnifier included free
3) Easy to adjust brightness (up/down buttons)
4) Auto shutoff feature (which is unfortunately necessary due to the on-button that's easy to bump).
5) Like any red dot sight, it's faster and more accurate than iron sights.
BAD POINTS (many!):
1) Lens caps nearly impossible to close, as everyone who owns this sight seems to agree.
2) Bulky electronic controls bulge out to the left, blocking peripheral vision, even more than the right side battery compartment and knobs.
3) On-button: unit constantly turns itself on at the slightest touch or bump, such as when trying to close lens covers, laying the rifle down, putting rifle in its case, etc., which drains the battery (although its 4-hour auto-shutoff feature mitigates this somewhat). To turn if off, you need to hold the button down for four seconds, but to turn it ON...
Great Red Dot Sight
This sight is on par with the Aimpoint RDS for 1/3 the price. I have some experience using the Aimpoint RDS and have to say they are eerily similar in design. Quality is very good with a strong picatinny base and the tude construction is sound. The flip covers are rubber causing them to unneccessarily flip up if not pushed down but thats not a problem. The doubler is also constructed well evethough it does tighten the viewed image through the sight sometimes limiting the view but using both eyes is the primary function of the sight. The flip covers are able to rotate 360 degrees allowing the shooter to position the covers where ever comfortable. It is wide due to the function controls and the battery and long with the doubler. The co-witness between ironsight and dot is great for any folding and standard sights. Overall this is a great sight for the price and I intend to thoroughly test and train with it for many weekends at the range.
